Published December 26, 2024

The cryptocurrency market surged back to life in 2024, and meme coins became the leading stars of this bullish trend.

What took place: Memes inspired by internet culture, famous animated characters, and the latest trends brought notable profits to investors throughout the year.

The coin that impressed the most was SPX6900, built on the Solana network. It witnessed a staggering increase of 9695% since the beginning of the year.

SPX6900 is a humorous take on cryptocurrency, aiming to establish a new stock market index called SPX6900, which challenges the dominance of the traditional S&P 500. It has a capped supply of 1 billion tokens.

Close behind was the cat-themed currency Popcat, which climbed 9374% since 2024 started. Like SPX6900, POPCAT is also developed on the Solana blockchain.

Coming in third place was Mog Coin, based on the Ethereum network, which soared 4746% during the year.

Meanwhile, larger players did well too. The most recognized meme currency by market cap, Dogecoin, increased by 263%, and Shiba Inu rose by 115%.

The frog-themed currency Pepe was noted as the best-performing large-cap meme coin, boasting gains of 1192% since the start of 2024.

Another hot contender was dogwifhat on Solana, which saw a rise of 1158% year-to-date.

In total, around nine different tokens achieved gains exceeding 1000% throughout the year. These extraordinary growth rates have renewed focus on the potential wealth-generation capabilities of meme currencies, despite their notorious volatility and limited utility.
