Quantinuum Collaborates with NVIDIA in Quantum Computing Research
Quantinuum has announced its selection as a founding collaborator in the new NVIDIA Accelerated Quantum Research Center (NVAQC), aimed at pushing the boundaries of hybrid quantum-classical computing. This center is slated to open later this year and will combine Quantinuum’s System Model H2—recognized as one of the most advanced quantum systems—with NVIDIA’s CUDA-Q platform and the GB200 NVL72 supercomputer. The goal is to further research into practical applications of quantum computing.
The partnership will explore crucial areas like quantum error correction, quantum simulation, and generative quantum AI (Gen QAI). This emerging field leverages quantum-generated data to enhance the effectiveness of AI model training. Quantinuum has developed a Gen QAI system that aims to increase the accuracy of AI results by including quantum-generated data, potentially broadening the types of problems that AI systems can solve.
In 2022, Quantinuum became the first company to implement CUDA-Q in its platforms, currently providing access to its System Model H1 QPU and emulator for CUDA-Q users. Future quantum systems will continue to support CUDA-Q and be accessible through the NVAQC.
Looking ahead, Quantinuum aims to release a 100-logical-qubit quantum system by 2027, with scalable versions featuring hundreds of logical qubits expected by 2030. These ambitions are supported by recent achievements, such as exceeding 99.9% fidelity in two-qubit gates and ongoing advancements in the quality of logical qubits. The company has also tackled long-standing issues regarding the scalability of ion-trap architectures.
Dr. Rajeeb Hazra, president and CEO of Quantinuum, stated, “By integrating NVIDIA’s AI hardware and software solutions with our unique offerings, we are creating groundbreaking solutions and driving the adoption of Generative Quantum AI across various sectors.”
Tim Costa, NVIDIA’s senior director of CAE, Quantum, and CUDA-X, emphasized, “Advancements in useful quantum computing rely on new discoveries. The NVAQC will expedite the creation of practical quantum devices, serving as a hub for breakthroughs from partners like Quantinuum.”
