Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, recently announced his plans to invest a staggering amount of between $60 billion and $65 billion into artificial intelligence this year. This commitment aims to position Meta as a leader in the AI sector.

Meta's Vision for AI

Zuckerberg shared insights in a Facebook post on Friday, expressing his expectation that Meta's AI technology will serve over 1 billion people by the end of 2025. He mentioned that the company’s Llama 4 model is anticipated to become a top-tier model in the industry this year.

Infrastructure Development

To support these ambitious AI plans, Meta is constructing a new data center with a capacity exceeding two gigawatts, which is comparable to powering a large portion of Manhattan. Zuckerberg elaborated on this, stating that they will bring approximately 1 gigawatt of computing power online in 2025 and will end the year with over 1.3 million GPUs dedicated to AI computations.

Expanding AI Teams

The company plans to significantly enhance its AI teams, indicating that they are well-positioned to continue their investments in the following years. As Zuckerberg puts it, they have the financial capital to keep pushing forward.

Staffing Adjustments

In conjunction with these developments, Meta has recently communicated to its managers about implementing a 5% reduction in workforce, affecting around 3,600 employees. This step is part of their strategy to phase out those not meeting performance expectations.

New Company Policies

In light of these changes, Zuckerberg has also introduced new policies within the company. These include a reduction in content moderation and the elimination of the platform’s fact-checking system, aligning with his increasing proximity to the Trump administration.
